Abstract

In this activity, students will analyze the SIR differential equations model in the context of a zombie invasion of a human population. First the students will analyze a two equation system representing only two populations, humans and zombies. Then a new population, the recovered zombies, will lead to the development of the three equation system. Students will then reduce the system to two equations. In addition, students will then produce and analyze several possible phase planes for each of the two equation systems. Finally, the students will write an essay detailing their results.
